Beijing Expo International Exhibition Co. Ltd. and China Medical Promotion Association Sub-Health Committee are co-sponsors of the CIHIE. It is sponsored by Beijing Shibowei International Exhibition Co. Ltd. and approved by Ministry of Commerce. The "China Health Industry Exposition" was the predecessor to CIHIE. In 2003, the year SARS was rife, it was established. It was founded in 2003, the year of SARS. The CIHIE Expo grew from 80 to over 1,800 booths after 20 years of relentless efforts. The exhibition's size has increased from 2,000 to 100,000 square metres. From a single China, the number of participating countries has increased from just 60 to over 1,500. Since 2000, the number of visitors has increased from 60 to more than 1,500. The Ministry of Commerce has rated the exhibition as "National Key Guidance and Support Exhibition".The CIHIE Health Expo 2008 Beijing Exhibition, Shanghai Exhibition August 2008 and Chengdu Exhibition September 2008 have all been completed successfully. The 25th Health Expo is scheduled to take place in Beijing China International Exhibition Center on April 17-19, 2019. Shanghai Expo is scheduled to take place in the New International Expo Center, Shanghai from August 28-30 2019.
